We are getting lots of new spring stuff in the next week or so. Stop by and see things for outside like a wonderful shabby table with a galvanized metal top and just about the coolest bird feeder you've ever seen. Cool buckets and watering cans and pottery jugs and critters and just so much I can't list it all.

Talk about a small town. Mr. Meadows, my at least 90 year old neighbor drives down the street a couple of times each week. He drives an enormous old brown Buick something. He blows the horn all the way down the street. It's one of those really loud ones that sound like it came off the Queen Mary. Anyway, one day I was outside talking to Rodney (he's our auto mechanic next door) when Mr. Meadows drove by blowing his horn. We both waved at him and I asked Rodney if he knew why Mr. Meadow always blew his horn when he went down Main St. Rodney said, "well , one day he came in for service on his car and I told him he had a really loud, obnoxious horn. So now every time he he drives by he blows his horn just to irritate me". I just love our small town. Stop by for a cup of tea when you can. Diane & Karen

Happy Anniversary!

We are celebrating our 3rd year anniversary in this building! Thank you to all our wonderful customers who have been so supportive of us. We have been ordering all kinds of new stuff so you will be seeing many interesting additions to our usual inventory. I love going for a walk in our small town. You know you live in a small town when you are just out for a walk and 47 people stop and ask you if you need a ride. Basketball goals face the street. Cars drive past you and the driver throws up his hand to say hello. People speak to you as you go by them. Directions are based on who you mutually know. ex: "Can you tell me where Susan Smith lives? Do you know where Mrs. Brown lives? Well, turn right just past her house..." You can stop and talk to someone who is working in their yard and they'll tell you all about their garden and will probably break off a piece of something you've admired for your own garden.

It's story day today at the library. The kindergartners from the Primary School are walking up to the library for storytelling. Miss Jill is our local storyteller and one of the best around. It never gets old for her. Storytelling has a rich heritage in these mountains. Apparently the topic this time was "socks". I'll have to call her and find out the rest of the story.
The kids love to go on these mini field trips.

I love our small town. As I was walking around Lk. Louise this morning, I saw two cars going in opposite directions both stop and patiently wait while a group of ducks crossed the street. No honking(the drivers, that is); they just watched the parade and then went on with their day.
I got to thinking about how many things like that make up life in a small town.

Our shop is located at 55 N. Main St. in the small town of Weaverville, NC. We are just about smack dab in the middle of it all. We see the comings and goings of people all day long. Our front porch in the warm weather is a great place to watch the world go by. When it's cold, we can watch from our big windows out onto the street.
For example, one of our favorite pastimes is to watch people parallel park out front. Being close to the library, we see a lot of people park for just a few minutes while they run in to get a book or drop one off. One man, bless his heart, adjusted his vehicle 14 times (we counted)before he gave up and shut the car off. He was still about two feet from the curb, but he got out, returned his book and was on his way.

In The Good Old Summertime

We 're having a wonderful summer here in Weaverville, NC! So many new friends from all over the country. Our hot seller now is the willow furniture. It's made for us by a second generation family business. Everyone loves it for their porches. BUT! It's not just for your Porches! It's great for living rooms and even bedrooms! We have a customer that bought a rocker for their bedroom and put two of our beautiful white pillows in for a romantic look.
If you need cushions made, Diane is able to make them with your fabric.

Stop by on a Saturday and sample some of our gourmet foods. (We use it as an excuse to eat!) Our friend Denise's favorite is Key Lime Cheeseball. We also have great dips and soups and teas and chocolates.

1 year anniversary!

We have just celebrated our 1 year anniversary in our new buiding! God is so good to us!

We love white linens and jammies...

Our good friend, Linda from Canada finds these lovely, romantic white cotton nightgowns for us. We love how girly they are and so do our customers. We have them in various sizes and in long or shortie length. These are new but are fashioned after vintage patterns, so you can wear them and throw them in the wash.

We also have some wonderful pillowslips that are hand-stitched and ready for your bed or your guest room. Don't you just love white?

This is our first blog. What a word. blog. Those of you who know us know how un-savvy we are with computer stuff. Our friends and children have been trying to drag us kicking and screaming into the 21st century. Well, here we are.
